Delivering QoS Requirements to Traffic with Diverse Delay Tolerances in a TDMA Environment - Networking, IEEE/ACM Transactions on

چکیده
The focus of this paper is on determining the call admission region and scheduling policies for a time-division multiple-access (wireless) system supporting heterogeneous realtime variable bit rate applications with distinct quality of service (QoS) requirements and traffic characteristics. The QoS is defined in terms of a maximum tolerable packet delay and dropping probability. A packet is dropped if it experiences excess delay. The call admission region is established for policies that are workconserving (WC) and that satisfy the earliest due date (EDD) service criterion (WC-EDD policies). Such policies are known to optimize the overall system performance. In addition to the determination of the call admission region, this study leads also to the construction of scheduling policies that deliver any performance in the region established for WC-EDD policies. Finally, an upper bound on the call admission region that can be achieved under any policy (not limited to the WC-EDD policies) is determined.

Future-generation wireless packet networks will support multimedia applications with diverse QoS requirements. Much of the research on scheduling algorithms has been focused on hard QoS provisioning of integrated services. Although these algorithms give hard delay bounds, their stringent requirements sacrifice the potential statistical multiplexing performance and flexibility of the packet-swit...
متن کاملStudy of an Adaptive Scheme for Voice Transmission on IP in a Wireless Networking Environment 802.11e
In the recent few years there is a remarkable improvement in the basic IEEE 802.11 WLAN standard because of its intrinsic lack of ability to provide the QoS requirements for the time stringent traffic (stern real-time requirements). The existing 802.11 WLAN standards, even if they can provide high data rates (up to 54 Mbps), do not support the quality of services. The efforts to bring QoS suppo...
متن کاملA Resource Estimation and Call Admission Algorithm for Wireless Multimedia Networks Using the Shadow - Networking, IEEE/ACM Transactions on
The shadow cluster concept can be used to estimate future resource requirements and to perform call admission decisions in wireless networks. Shadow clusters can be used to decide if a new call can be admitted to a wireless network based on its quality-of-service (QoS) requirements and local traffic conditions. The shadow cluster concept can especially be useful in future wireless networks with...
